FAQ

Do you take insurance?

No, we do not take insurance for two reasons;

  • One: Insurance companies control a lot about clients and their therapy journey. Insurance companies expect a diagnosis when they aren’t always necessary and are not always helpful. Insurance companies also decide how many of your sessions get approved. This can impact the flow of treatment and meeting your goals.

  • Two: Confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Insurance companies expect providers to share too much about clients that we at Healing Towards Wellness are not comfortable sharing. We want to protect you and your story they best we can.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept card, cash, and most HSA payments.

Do you complete superbills?

No, for the same reasons we aren’t paneled with insurance, we want to protect our clients and their therapy journey. It is also rare for insurance companies to approve superbills.

Where is your office located?

Our office are located in downtown Overland Park, near the bus stop.

How much do your services cost?

This is our most asked question. We work from a sliding scale model that ranges from $40-$75 per session. Being a nonprofit we are able to charge below market price for our area. This is why Healing Towards Wellness exists, we want to meet the needs of clients who otherwise would not be able to afford therapy, where in our area on average costs $600 a month. We work with clients around their yearly income and what is most comfortable. In our experience clients are honest and respectful around what they can afford and honor that therapy is an investment. What is your cancellation policy?

If for any reason you need to cancel we expect to know more than 24 hours in advance. If you cancel day-of or no-show, clients have two options;

  • Reschedule within 48 hours or,

  • Pay the cancellation fee which is the same cost as the session.

We encourage strong communication to let us know what is going on so we can best support you. We are here to help and the last thing we want to do is charge because a client did not cancel in time. If the day-of or no-show is due to an emergency we will work together to make sure you get your mental health needs met.

Do you meet in person or virtually?

During the pandemic, meeting virtually was such a blessing to adapt to the changes of social distancing. Telehealth has been a wonderful resource. Healing Towards Wellness works with clients and demographics that meeting in person is more effective for longterm change and healing. We have stepped away from meeting virtually unless there is an emergency or getting to the office is not an option. This would include your child being sick, severe snow days, or you need an emergency session that is scheduled quickly.

Meeting in person is our goal and we continue to follow strict guidelines around cleanliness.

What protocols do you follow in regards to Covid-19?

Masks are not required unless the client chooses to wear one. We hope and encourage everyone who comes to our office to be vaccinated. If a client asks their therapist to wear a mask, we will do so. We santasize the office between each session, clean the office thoroughly throughout the week and encourage strong communication if anyone is sick.

What should I expect in regards to frequency of sessions?

This is a tough question to answer because therapy is different for every client. Here is the structure we follow at Healing Towards Wellness;

We start with weekly sessions for the first six months. We understand there are holidays, vacations and sickness so there may be a missed session here and there but we have the goal of meeting weekly. We start with this frequency because rapport building and steadiness is so important. To truly understand our clients and what they need, we need to be with them for a minimum of six months with consistency.

When we reach the sixth month mark, we have conversations with clients about how they feel therapy is going and reflect on goals to see if therapy can drop down to every other week. This drop down is rare but clients are surprised at how much growth and healing can be accomplished steadily in six months. In our experience most clients continue meeting weekly, but there are some who believe dropping down to twice a month can be just as effective.

When we reach the one year mark, again, this is the same process, we have a conversation around frequency of sessions. This is where most clients do drop down to sessions twice a month. All clients and their needs are different, but weekly for a full year can be transformative. Clients usually know when it is time for them to reduce sessions, as your therapist we will share observations but we want to nurture autonomy in our clients who know their needs best.

We do not believe people need to be in therapy forever and our goal is to have your therapy experience be effective, intentional and worth your time. By the time you reach being in therapy for a year, you should be so proud of yourself because of the amazing work you put in, it is truly amazing to see.

Moving beyond a year, our goal is to meet monthly and then meet every three months, similar to seeing your medical doctor. We believe and value that clients do not need years of high frequency services, unless their mental and emotional needs call for this, we have found this to be rare. When clients reach a year and a half or even two years we would like to be a check-in spot for you, your relationship or family. Maintaince is so important in so many areas of our life, we want to encourage this for therapy as well. Healing Towards Wellness hopes to be a place to utilize as a long term tool for your health, just like a doctor, dentist, chiropractor, or getting a massage.
